Most people don’t spend much time thinking about what they would do in a difficult situation. That is until they have to. The reality is that uncertainty often shows up in small, everyday ways long before anything serious happens. A moment that feels off, a situation that escalates unexpectedly, or a decision that has to be made quickly and without consideration. Having the ability to handle those moments with clarity and control isn’t about being aggressive or confrontational, it’s about being prepared and not having to second-guess yourself.
Krav Maga is built around the idea of preparedness, whether it’s for dealing with a violent physical fight, or an awkward/threatening social interaction. It’s a practical approach to self-defense that focuses on what actually works, rather than what looks impressive. It’s this which gives you the confidence and ability to engage verbally with individuals who may make you feel uncomfortable. The training is simple, direct, and designed to make sense from the start. You won’t be expected to memorize complex sequences or perform perfectly under pressure. Instead, you’ll learn movements that follow your natural reactions, helping you respond in a way that feels instinctive rather than forced. To experience this empowering system/approach to dealing with conflict (verbal and/or physical), you can attend one of our beginner classes and experience this for yourself by registering for one of our classes using the button below.

Beginner ClassGershon Ben Keren's instruction is amazing. This is somebody who you know has walked the walk. The detail he brought out when demonstrating and teaching a technique was quite incredible and he explained the limits to each technique as well - where they weren't applicable or how an aggressor could act/react to stop them working and how you could then adapt to their response etc. Mose, I.
The Krav Maga Experience
What makes the experience of learning Krav Maga different to other martial arts and self-defense systems is how it’s taught. Training isn’t about competition or performance, and there’s no pressure to be anything other than where you are right now. Classes are structured so you can build confidence at your own pace, while still being challenged enough to grow. You’ll work through realistic scenarios, learning how situations develop and how to deal with them before they become something bigger. Over time, that familiarity changes how you carry yourself, how you read people, and how you make decisions.
There’s also a strong social side to the training. You’re working alongside people who are there for similar reasons, to feel more capable, more aware, and more confident in themselves. It’s a supportive environment where progress is shared, and where showing up consistently matters more than trying to prove anything. For many, it becomes something they look forward to, not just because of the training, but because of the sense of momentum it creates.
You don’t need to be in exceptional physical shape before you start (though you should be comfortable working out and engaging in physical activities), and you don’t need any previous experience. Everything is built from the ground up in a way that’s accessible and realistic. The goal isn’t perfection, it’s progress. Each session gives you something you can take away and use, whether that’s a physical skill, a better understanding of how situations unfold, or simply the confidence that comes from knowing you’re doing something to prepare yourself.
In a world which at times can feel unpredictable, having a sense of control, which is quiet, steady, and earned, can make a real difference in how you handle difficult and confrontational interactions. This isn’t about changing who you are, it’s about adding something that stays with you, both inside and outside the training environment.
Beginner ClassesKrav Maga Books By Gershon Ben Keren
To date Head Instructor of Krav Maga Yashir Boston, Gershon Ben Keren, has written three best-selling books on Krav Maga. Each book focuses on different types of violent offending and explores the preventative measures that can be taken to avoid being victimized in the first place, along with processes that various offenders use. The photographs in all three books are full color and shot in the types of locations where real-life violence occurs e.g., on street corners, in bars and pubs and at ATM’s etc. Also, rather than techniques being photographed in stages, with static poses etc., techniques are shown demonstrated against attackers performing full speed attacks/assaults. Krav Maga Blog

Gershon Ben Keren, started his weekly blog in 2010, writing mainly about Krav Maga techniques, since then it has expanded into a dissection and explanation of violence e.g., looking at how violent offenders assess risk, their decision-making processes, how they engage in victim selection etc. The blog now receives around 20 000 visits a month, with many articles appearing in google searches, concerning violence, criminological theories, and the psychology of violence etc. You can access the Krav Maga blog by clicking the button below.

Google Author Talks
Head Instructor, Gershon Ben Keren, is a criminologist who has been working in the private security sector since 1990. When he was asked by Tuttle Publishing to write his first book on Krav Maga, rather than simply list pages of techniques, he described the contexts within which violent events take place, along with the processes that offenders use, to gain access to those they target. It is these aspects of violence – the prediction, identification and avoidance – that the two Google Author talks look at.
